Book Review and Giveaway: A Woman’s Wisdom

How the Book of Proverbs Speaks to Everything

A Womans Wisdom coverThe first time I really studied Proverbs was in the eleventh grade going through the Life Application Bible study workbook.  I also remember a college freshman that I discipled and she wanted to study the book of Isaiah.  Seeing this girl was on the brink of over committing her freshman year away I suggested Proverbs instead.  I could see the disappointment all over her face.  She wanted to read something “deep” and I was suggesting Proverbs.  We went through it in a month as she was instructed to read a chapter a day and not read ahead, if anything read the same chapter over and over that day.  She finally saw that Proverbs wasn’t all that bad to read.  I remember one night she actually said, “Proverbs has a lot of good stuff in it.”  I smiled and agreed.  I love to see the light come on in a girl’s head.

I feel like Lydia Brownback wrote, “A Woman’s Wisdom,” to let women realize Proverbs is a good book too.  After all, the beginning of wisdom is fear of the Lord, as she covers this very statement in chapter one.  Also in chapter one I love that she directly points this book to Jesus and also very directly calls you to your knees if you are not trusting in Jesus as your Savior.  Props to Lydia.  Very few Christian authors conduct an invitation in their first chapter they assume their readers are Christians.

This book is best read alongside Proverbs however you choose to read Proverbs.  The author gives her suggestions in her introduction.  I think this book would be a great addition to a small group of ladies that are going through Proverbs.  The good thing about Proverbs and this book and you can really make this study as long or as short as you want it.  The author quotes several other books leaving you to dig deeper if you so wish.
