If you look through our personal library you will see more health and prayer books than any other type of book. Those are two areas of my life where I feel I always need help with. What do I do? Read about those topics. Am I now a health guru and prayer expert? No.
You might have noticed this ReGroup series is in no particular order. Obviously, if you want to regroup prayer is probably the first thing you did even if you didn’t realize you were praying. Your prayer might have sounded like, “Lord! Help me get control of my life!” or “Jesus! Help me get focused!”
When I was fresh out of high school I went to my first women’s conference. Becky Tirabassi was the speaker and talked about how her prayer life took on a life of its own when she started waking up an hour earlier to pray! At 18 years old I was astounded that someone would take up before the sun came up just to pray, not even read their Bible but to pray only. Sadly, when I left that conference I might have tried to wake up earlier and pray but it didn’t last long One practice that I learned that day and still do today is write out my prayers. Now, I don’t write all my prayers but typically my first one of the day and my last one of the day are written. Writing my prayers helps to keep me focused…especially if it’s early in the morning and I haven’t finished my first cup of coffee. Writing my prayers also helps as a way of journaling for me. Typically, I don’t have the time to properly journal everything on my mind so writing my prayers as turned into an escape of sorts. I still have my old prayer journals and I will sometimes read them and be reminded of how immature I was. Chris is also under very strict instructions to burn them all upon my death.
I will let you think of more ways to incorporate prayer in your life and what works for you. But if you need some good reads, here are the most recommended books we own on prayer:
And as soon as it’s released I’m sure we’ll own, “Prayer,” by Tim Keller too.
Do you have any tips on how you incorporate more prayer time into your day?
